Today I will take you to DMZ(Demilitarized Zone) South Korea. In India there is Wagah Border, in US Mexico border  and in Korea there is DMZ , which are still considered to be active military region that are still on war.

DMZ

DMZ

When I was in Korea I was super excited to visit DMZ. Here I want to tell you that, you can not visit DMZ without official tour company. We had short one day trip to DMZ and choose allseoultours for this excursion. There were three types of tour for DMZ.

  • DMZ tour.
  • Joint security area tour(JSA).
  • Combining both tour.
Start from Seoul 08:00

We took DMZ morning half day tour and the tour started from Seoul Myeongdong where we were staying.Firstly, tour company will pick up all the people and will board all of them to common bus.In bus it was good to hear about history of Korea and some cracking jokes about North Korea by guide. He explained that there are some fake villages on other side of border(North Korea), to show off their power and prosperity. Further explained that north Korea still uses wood for basic necessities and there is much shortage of electricity which made their side of the forest bald.

ID check Imjingak Village 09:00

This will be the first point you will see, war memorial and the Freedom Bridge(The bridge from where soldiers came back at the end of the war).At this base point your tour company will register everybody for tour and get government permission to enter in DMZ. While guide is doing paperwork you can go around the place.

The 3rd Tunnel  09:30

This is the tunnel which was dug by North Koreans to invade South Korea.Once it became international issue North Korea tried to hide its shame by explaining that, it was just a coal mining project and refuse invading. We watched 5 minute video over there for information about war history and then we entered into tunnel about 1.1 miles long, 6.6 feet high and 6.6 feet wide. Going down was easy but coming back was bit difficult to climb.

Tips: Try to finish photography over here very fast as guide will not give you extra minutes. Short heighten people are in benefit in terms of enjoyment in tunel as tunnel’s height is not much on some points.

Dora Observatory 11:00

It’s in the top of the mountain and if you are lucky enough and weather permits, you can see north korea clearly. Here you can also see Hyundai manufacturing plant as well as long flagpole of both country across the border. It was not thrilling but somehow good to see North korean civilization from the eye of binocular.

North Korea

North Korea

Dorasan Station 12:00

This is the station where you can see train line linking south Korea to North Korea capital Pyongyang, which is not active as for now and also immigration counter which is  a hope for both the country that, some day it will be in operation once united.

Last stop Seoul Amethyst Center  12:30

If you are a big fan of amethyst you can buy something for you or your beloved. Normal price start from 100$ ~ , It was 15 minutes visit  but I was just resting instead of doing anything because I was tired.

Itaewon station 13:00

Tour Bus dropped us in Itaewon station. It’s a place surrounded by good bars foreign restaurants and other shopping malls. One last but not least we found few restaurant offering vegetarian Hidimba(famous Korean food), which my vegetarian partner savored with great enthusiasm.

Hidden Charm Of JEJU Island South Korea

Jusangjeolli Cliff

Jusangjeolli Cliff

Korea is very similar to Japan, but there are still few places to visit, which will give you, unique authentic experience for Korea, Jeju is one of them.We have been in Jeju for a week and felt that natural beauty is scattered everywhere in the city.I did work as a digital nomad in the city and somehow got 3~4 days for traveling around weekends. Seogwipo was the area, where we were staying,  and was very convenient to roam around city. There is regular limousine bus service for Seogwipo from airport (#600 Airport <->Seogwipo). Here are few attractions we had a short look with nomadic trail.

Manjanggul Cave (만장굴 [유네스코 세계자연유산])

Manjanggul lava cave is located a bit outside of city but easy to acess by bus. It’s my personal recommendation that you should visit while in Jeju. It’s one of the best creation of volcano eruption but only 1 Km of the cave is open for tourist.

Gimnyeong Maze Park (김녕미로공원)

Its around 300~400 Meter away from Lava Cave. So you can cover it by walk.Park contains a maze that has seven images incorporated in it.The maze is in the shape of the Jeju, and those images can be clearly seen from viewpoints in park.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (성산일출봉)

Peak is famous for magnificent view of sunrise as well as sunset. There is a big crater at the top of of the Peak, filled with water in rainy season.I have just noticed one point that, they don’t allow to enter in the park on bad weather so check weather before plan to visit this attraction. There is ‘Women Diver Performance’, ‘Boating’ and ‘horse riding’ nearby the attraction apart from hiking.

Jeongbang And Cheonjeyeon waterfall(정방폭포 & 천지연폭포)

If you are living in seogwipo area , don’t forget to visit these waterfall , it’s just 200~600 meter distance by walk on the way of Chilsimni Food Street. These attraction are on the Jeju Olle Trail parallel to sea shore.I loved eating street food (Dumpling , Chicken wings, fried items etc.) in Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market and Chilsimni street, which are famous food streets in Jeju.

Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff (주상절리(대포동지삿개)

Jusangjeolli are stone pillars piled up along the coast and is a designated cultural monument of Jeju Island. Jusangjeolli Cliff was formed when the lava from Hallasan Mountain erupted into the sea of Jungmun. This place can be visited along with Teddy Bear Museum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not!.

Bukchon Dol

Bukchon Dol

Jeju Love Land (제주러브랜드)

It’s a sculpture theme park based on sex and sensuality. The park as a whole looks like a piece of land art. I think 1 Hour ~ 3 Hours is enough to visit this place, where art and eroticism amalgamate in cool, fun and humorous styles.

Hallasan National Park (한라산국립공원)

This is called pride of Jeju and I think island’s must visiting destination. It has many tracking trails with maximum 10 Kms hiking distance.

Last but not the least, if you are interested in beach then there are two famous beaches, which we have been around were Black sand beach and Hamdeok Beach.

Special Note:
  • Note down bus number for travelling around city
  • Taxi is really cheap in the city so you can even book taxi to move here and there or rent a car on daily basis.
  • Do not forget to eat Jeju pork, raw fish and orange(Fresh bottled orange juice).
  • Do not hesitate to take help from information center as there are really good employee to help people in multiple languages.
